Lenovo retained its No. 3 ranking in the worldwide server market in the fourth quarter but its market share dipped slightly.
Market research firm Gartner reported Wednesday that Lenovo shipped 5.9 percent more servers in the fourth quarter than a year earlier, less than overall market growth of 9.2 percent.
Lenovo’s market share totaled 8.7 percent in the quarter, down from 9 percent a year ago.
Still, Lenovo fared better than No. 1 Hewlett Packard Enterprise and No. 2 Dell, both of which shipped fewer servers than a year ago.
When ranked by server revenue rather than shipments, however, Lenovo ranked fourth with an estimated $1.14 billion in the fourth quarter, up 2.9 percent from a year ago, Gartner reported.
Overall server revenue rose 8.2 percent in the fourth quarter.
Lenovo is based in China but has a headquarters in Morrisville. The company is the No. 1 producer of PCs and also ranks among the world’s largest smartphone companies.
