As I wrote about in today’s N&O, the Triangle’s first Publix grocery store opened today in Cary. And a new store in town translates to more deals for price-sensitive shoppers.
To start the deals rolling, Publix is offering a coupon for $10 off a $50 gasoline gift card after spending $50 on groceries. That’s a 20 percent savings in gasoline.
You can find the coupon on the front page of this week’s circular. If you live near the store, you’ll find the circular in today’s N&O. If not, you’ll be able to pick one up in the store, which is located at the corner of Davis Drive and High House Road in the new Bradford shopping center.
Before you head out to the store, there are a few things you need to know to maximize your savings:
Never miss a local story.
*Unlike most Triangle grocers, Publix doesn’t offer a customer loyalty card. In other words, every shopper gets the same deals.
*Buy-one-get-one-free -- or BOGO -- sale items ring up at half price so feel free to buy just one. A coupon can be used on each item.
*If you’ve shopped Publix in other states, don’t expect identical promotions. Two of the most popular promotions offered in other states – double coupons and the weekly penny mystery deal – will not be offered in North Carolina stores.
*Check for store coupon booklets at the information center near the front of the store. These coupons can be combined with manufacturer coupons for extra savings.
*Shoppers may use up to eight identical coupons per day.
*Publix accepts coupons issued by competitors. A competitor coupon on a store-brand item will be honored with the purchase of a Publix brand item. A note about this: Each store determines its own competitors and posts them near the front door. At the Cary Publix, competitors are: Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods, Food Lion and Kroger.
*An expired coupon will be accepted with a rain check if the coupon was valid on the date the rain check was issued. This is huge perk for coupon shoppers and one that we haven’t previously seen offered at Triangle stores.
*If your coupon savings are more than your total grocery order, the difference will be refunded to the customer in the form of a Publix gift card. This, too, is unusual. The only other store in the Triangle that offers cash back is Walmart.
*Digital coupons are available on Publix.com and can be used by providing your telephone number. They cannot be combined with paper manufacturer coupons.
