A group that includes the CEO of the Raleigh digital marketing agency Three Ships has acquired the Manpower building at Oberlin Road and Wade Avenue.
America’s Cup LLC paid $4.25 million for the 27,000-square-foot building at 1122 Oberlin Road, according to property records. Investors in the purchase include Zach Clayton, CEO of Three Ships, his father Jack Clayton, and Jeff Stocks, who previously owned and led the Manpower staffing office in Raleigh.
Clayton said the group bought the property, which is 100 percent leased, as an investment. Stocks previously owned the building with other partners, and has increased his ownership stake, Clayton said. Stocks is a co-founder and chairman the Raleigh startup EmployUs.
Clayton said when he was 24 and had just graduated from business school Stocks rented him an office in the Manpower building, where Three Ships stayed for 11 months.
“The opportunity to own part of the building where Three Ships got its start was great, and the location’s fantastic,” he said.
Three Ships offices are on Hargett Street in downtown Raleigh. The company has about 60 employees, and has incubated a software company called Demand Signals within Three Ships. Clayton said purchasing the Manpower building gives Three Ships the option to possibly move Demand Signals at some point in the future.
