Agencies to host merchant sign-up day for farmers and farmers markets
Federal and state agencies are hosting a merchant sign-up day Thursday for farmers and farmers markets interested in accepting payments from Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps, recipients and related grants.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service will join North Carolina agencies to host the sign-up event from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Raleigh State Farmers Market, located at 1201 Agriculture St.
The event is part of an effort to increase SNAP recipients’ access to farmers’ fresh products, along with helping more money stay in the local economy.
Farmers and markets interested in accepting payments from SNAP recipients should bring a driver’s license or a passport; a Social Security card or other document with their name and Social Security number; and a copy of a voided check for the bank account that will be used to deposit the funds.
