Durham-based Barley Labs is one step closer to winning a Super Bowl commercial

Durham-based Barley Labs is among the top 20 businesses selected out of thousands to advance in the Intuit Small Business Big Game, a contest with prizes that include a 30-second commercial during the Feb. 2 Super Bowl.
Nearly 15,000 businesses and nonprofit associations across the nation entered the contest that was narrowed down by a panel of judges. The top 20 were announced Tuesday, which also marks the transition into the next phase of the contest. About 7,000 Intuit employees across the globe will narrow down the competition to the final four, which will be announced on Nov. 11.
Public voting from Nov. 11 to Dec. 1 will then determine who will win the grand prize and can expect to have their advertising broadcast during the third quarter of the Super Bowl on Feb. 2.
The advancement offers a unique opportunity for the business that launched in September 2012 after founders Scott Beaudry and Theresa Chu started selling their dog treats, which is made from Fullsteam Brewery’s spent grain.
