The U.S. Small Business Administration named Freddy Cannady, owner of Raleigh medical device company Vesocclude Medical, NC Exporter of the Year for 2014.

The U.S. Small Business Administration named the owner of a Raleigh medical device company N.C. Exporter of the Year for 2014.

“We are very happy to receive such prestigious recognition,” said Freddy Cannady, who started Vesocclude Medical in 2005 after he lost his job to outsourcing overseas, in a statement.

Vesocclude is a medical device manufacturer that specializes in the advanced development and production of products used in ligation, a surgical procedure of closing off a blood vessel, duct or tube in the body by using a ligature or clip.

Award criteria include increases in sales, profits and employment. Overseas marketing strategies and the introduction of unique trading relationships, products or services were also considered.

Cannady was nominated for the award by Alex Viva, an international business development counselor at the N.C. Small Business & Technology Development Center, which provides counseling and other assistance to businesses across the state.
