Person Street Pharmacy is among four businesses named Retailer of the Year by the N. C. Retail Merchants Association Friday.

N.C. Retail Merchants Association, a nonprofit trade association, honored Person Street Pharmacy, founded in 1910, during a lunch in Charlotte. Other recipients include Harris Teeter, which was founded in Matthews; Lanier True Value Hardware, founded in Lexington; and Lowe’s Companies, founded in Mooresville.

The four recipients are examples of businesses that have helped sustain local economies, changed to meet the needs of their customers, and given back to their communities, the association said in a statement.

The association’s membership includes more than 25,000 stores, representing 75 percent of retail sales volume in the state. About 60 percent of the members are independent stores.
