A fisherman found the badly decomposed body of a man floating in Robeson Creek off Hanks Chapel Road in Chatham County this morning.
The body was sent to the state Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of death, said Capt. Charles Gardner of the Chatham Sheriff's Office.
The dead man, believed to be Hispanic, was clad in black boxer shorts, Gardner said. Authorities found two shirts and a pair khaki trousers in the water, and a pair of shoes with socks in them on the creek bank, he said.
A cell phone and wallet containing identification were in the trouser pockets. But Gardner said he did not want to release information about the identification until authorities are certain of the man's name.
