HILLSBOROUGH - A May trial date has been set for a former Orange High School student accused of shooting his father to death before heading to his former high school and attempting to execute an attack.

Alvaro Castillo was 19 in August 2006 when he drove up to the school in his family's minivan and fired until a school resource officer and reserve sheriff's deputy working as a driving instructor stopped him.

Two students were injured, but neither seriously.

After the school shootings, deputies discovered that Castillo's father had been shot dead in the family's home in rural Orange County.

In a hearing lasting less than five minutes in Orange County Superior Court Tuesday, Judge Michael Morgan agreed to a tentative trial date of May 5.
