RALEIGH - The man accused of kidnapping and killing a Wendell woman last month will likely stand trial on only one charge: first-degree murder.

Wake County Assistant District Attorney Susan Spurlin said she plans to dismiss two other charges against Antonio Davon Chance when he appears in court today. Spurlin will drop the charges of kidnapping and obtaining property by false pretenses.

Police say Chance, a convicted sexual offender, abducted Cynthia Moreland from a city-owned parking deck in downtown Raleigh on Aug. 22. Three days later, he was arrested and charged with kidnapping and using Moreland's debit card. He was charged with murder after Moreland's body was found in Harnett County on Sept. 1.

"In essence, everything that happened from the time Cynthia Moreland disappeared from the parking deck until his arrest is encompassed in the first-degree murder charge," Spurlin said Wednesday.

Chance, 29, is being held at the Wake County jail without bail. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
