Supporters of Allison Quets, the Florida woman charged with kidnapping the twins she put up for adoption, are fighting a court ruling that denied her custody of the children.

A panel of three Florida judges last month agreed with a lower court's ruling that Kevin and Denise Needham of Apex should retain custody of 2-year-old twins Holly and Tyler.

Quets had filed suit to gain custody of the twins shortly after she signed papers allowing the Needhams to adopt them. She has claimed that a severe illness influenced her decision.

Rebecca Creed, one of the lawyers who represented Quets in the custody case, said she has asked the panel to reconsider its decision, send it to a full panel of district judges or explain the ruling, which did not include a written opinion.

In the meantime, Quets' supporters are rallying. E-mail messages went out nationwide this weekend with a petition asking the court to grant Quets' request.

Quets, 49, of Orlando, Fla., faces federal kidnapping charges for fleeing with the twins to Ontario, Canada, in December.
