RALEIGH — State and local police apprehended a man and woman from Harnett County and charged them with operating a methamphetamine lab inside a hotel room on Wake Forest Road, according to a search warrant made public today.Methamphetamine, also know as “meth,” is a highly addictive stimulant that can be injected, snorted, smoked, or ingested orally. Meth users feel a short yet intense "rush" when the drug is initially administered, the National Drug Policy Center reports.Raleigh police charged Winifred Deneen Ralph, 43, of Erwin and Rodney T. Ralph, 37, of Dunn, with multiple felony offenses after finding a cornucopia of chemicals, over-the -counter drugs, fuels, lithium batteries and other substances commonly used to manufacture methamphetamine in room 267 at Homestead Studio Suites at 3500 Wake Forest Road, where the Ralphs were staying, according to the search warrant.The Wake County Sheriff’s Office charged Rodney Ralph on Sunday with manufacturing meth, possession with intention to manufacture, sell and deliver meth and possession of dangerous drugs. He was also charged with two counts of possession of precursor chemicals for meth and failure to appear in court, according to records filed at the City-County Bureau of Identification.Deputies also charged Rodney Ralph with two counts of failure to appear in court for a probation violation in Harnett County, where he was convicted of felony conspiracy to manufacture meth and trafficking meth, according to the search warrant that was filed this morning at the Wake County Clerk of Court's Office.Police charged Winifred Ralph on Thursday with manufacturing meth, possession of meth, possession of precursor chemicals for meth, littering hazardous waste, and possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver meth, court records show.Winifred Ralph was also wanted by authorities in Harnett County on charges of manufacturing meth, littering hazardous waste and two counts of failure to appear in court for manufacturing meth and resisting arrest. Both were wanted in Cumberland County on charges of possession of precursor chemicals and exceeding peudophedrine tablets, which are legally used in over-the-counter cold medications.Police searched the couple’s green, 1994 Chevy Blazer in the parking lot of the hotel and found a Ziploc bag containing an off-white powder, a gallon of Coleman fuel, a bottle of drain opener and blister packs containing pseudoephedrine tablets, court records show.Police, working with the State Bureau of Investigation, obtained a search warrant Thursday night. Just as they were about to enter Room 267 at 8:18 p.m., Rodney Ralph warned investigators that he did not want anyone to get hurt because there was a 100-pound cylinder of anhydrous ammonia in the room, court records show.The search warrant does not indicate whether investigators found anhydrous ammonia. However, they did find several packs of latex gloves, plastic funnels, rolls of aluminum foil, large coffee filters, drain cleaners, a three volt lithium battery, used foil with burn marks, a burner, digital scales and a digital thermometer, according to the search warrant. Court records did not indicate whether or how the Rodney and Winifred Ralph are related.Authorities transported the two to the Wake County jail. Rodney Ralph was being held in lieu of $850,500 bail. Winifred Ralph was being held in lieu of $560,000 bail, a jail spokeswoman said this morning.
