DURHAM -- DURHAM -- Police still haven't discerned a motive or made any arrests in the shooting death of a 30-year-old man early Sunday morning on Weaver Street.

Nicholas Javon James, whose address was listed as 2322 Charles St., Durham, was found shot inside a car parked in the 3000 block of Weaver Street after police responded to a report of gunfire at 1:05 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said police are not releasing how many times James was shot.

James had a long history of arrests and served a five-month prison term in 2003 for assaulting a government official.

He also has been convicted on cocaine and marijuana possession charges, as well as fleeing to elude police.

Michael said James was not listed in the city's gang database.

A woman who answered the door at the Charles Street address said James did not live there.

Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator C.A. Robinson at 560-4440, ext. 264, Sgt. Jack Cates at 560-4440, ext. 262 or CrimeStoppers at 683-1200.

CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases. Callers do not have to identify themselves.
