CHARLOTTE - A police standoff continues this morning in western Union County, where a sheriff's deputy was shot earlier this morning.

The situation is on Fincher Road, a few hundred yards west of Waxhaw-Indian Trail Road. That is near the Stallings-Indian Trail line.

The deputy was shot about 5 a.m., but there is no word what led to the incident. Police say the injured Union County sheriff's deputy was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, and that his injuries are not life-threatening. Police radio reports indicate the deputy was shot in the shoulder.

The sheriff office's SWAT unit has been called in, and there are reports that a suspect is inside a house near the scene of the shooting.

Police say Fincher Road is closed this morning between Waxhaw-Indian Trail Road and Potter Road. Authorities have set up a command post at Hartis Grove Baptist Church, off Waxhaw-Indian Trail Road.
