Durham police investigators are trying to identify two women accused of using counterfeit credit cards to withdraw $70,000 from banks in Durham, Raleigh, Wilmington and New Bern in the past six months.

The women went to the banks and asked to make cash withdrawals of $5,000 or $8,000 from a credit card. When the credit card was declined, the women asked the tellers to call the customer service number on the back of the card. The person who answered the phone told the tellers how to override the transactions and then authorized the cash withdrawals.

Investigators think the "customer service number" was actually a telephone number that was answered by an accomplice in the fraud.

One woman used California identification with the name Natalie Monique Robinson. The other used the name Jelyenne Gomez.

Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator A.H. Holland Jr. at 560-4440, ext. 254, or CrimeStoppers at 683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers do not have to identify themselves.
