Two robbery suspects were arrested early Friday morning after a vehicle chase through most of Durham.

Officers spotted a burgundy Dodge Intrepid that matched the description of a vehicle used in an armed robbery at Roxboro and Geer streets about 1 a.m. Friday.

It turned out the vehicle was instead associated with a carjacking at Wabash and Lawson Streets that had happened about 20 minutes earlier, police said.

The vehicle was spotted at Cheek Road and Hardee Street, but the driver refused to stop for police. The chase went through downtown, on Guess Road and onto the Durham Freeway, where the suspects exited at Briggs Avenue, jumped from the vehicle and ran, according to police reports. They were caught after a brief foot chase.

Keith Alston, 28, of South Alston Avenue, and Alonzo Beecher Branch, 37, of Cheek Road face charges of robbery, assault, carjacking and resisting arrest. Branch was charged with not stopping for police and hit-and-run property damage, police said.
