APEX - A Raleigh home builder has been charged with knowingly writing a worthless check for nearly $138,000, according to an arrest warrant made public Monday.

Apex police charged John Banks Kerr, 35, of Raymond Street, with one count of felony worthless check, according to the warrant. The warrant says police think Kerr wrote a check for $137,963.32 to Guy C. Lee Building Materials on July 30, knowing that it would not clear.

Kerr is president of Kerr-Smith Homes & Land Inc. A copy of the check, written from the company's account, accompanied the arrest warrant.
