RALEIGH - Police say the robber who killed a clerk at the Wilco on Trawick Road in April may have been responsible for at least eight other holdups in Raleigh since January.

The robber who fatally shot clerk Stephanie Powell Anderson may also have robbed a Wilco Hess at 7413 Louisburg Road on Feb. 1 and 13, police spokesman Jim Sughrue said today. In both instances a man entered the store about 5 a.m. as the clerk was opening for the day and robbed it at gunpoint.

Police previously said the robber may have been the person who shot and wounded a clerk Sept. 10 during the holdup of Mexico Lindo at 4010 Wake Forest Road.

The other possibly related robberies include: Jan. 23, Subway, 10450 Durant Road; April 5, Subway, 6320 Capital Blvd.; May 7, Subway, 5410 Six Forks Road; May 24, Capital Food Mart, 2929 Capital Blvd.; and June 5, Bojangles, 10610 Durant Road.

While police don't know whether the same person committed all the robberies, "the suspect's description and other factors lead detectives to believe they could be related," Sughrue said in a news release. "The suspect has been armed with a handgun in each instance and is considered to be extremely dangerous."

In each case, the robber was described as black, in his 20s to 30s, and about 6 feet tall with an athletic build. Other identifying details, such as skin tone, manner of speaking, and hair style, were not provided. The robber's clothing varied in the holdups.

Police are urging store employees to use extreme caution when opening businesses and when closing time approaches. They recommend that multiple employees open and close businesses whenever possible and that employees pay close attention to the areas surrounding stores at those times. A special tip line, 919-227-6220, has been set up for information on the cases.

Also, Wilco Hess is offering a $25,000 reward for information related to the fatal shooting of Anderson.

The city has posted surveillance videos from three of the robberies at surveillance video.
