$77 lottery win spoiled as clerk tries to trick customer

A gas station clerk has been charged with telling a patron her winning lottery ticket was a loser so he could cash it in himself.

Josh Wesley Price, 32, of Lenoir is charged with obtaining property by false pretense. He is accused of telling Tammy Church that her lottery ticket had no value, then keeping the ticket.

It was actually worth $77.

Man faces charges of faking cocaine

A man wanted by Cary police for trying to pass off Ivory soap as cocaine in a deal with undercover police officers was arrested Tuesday.

Stephen Curtis Hoyle, 18, of 1302 Castalia Drive was arrested in downtown Raleigh in connection with a sale of 2.3 ounces of Ivory soap. He was turned over to Cary officers, according to a Cary Police Department news release.

Hoyle is charged with possessing and trying to sell a counterfeit controlled substance, according to the arrest warrant.

Man charged in indecency with child

A Cary man was arrested Monday, accused of acting indecently with a 10-year-old child.

Samuel Reeves Wooten, 64, of 300 Arden Crest Court was arrested by the Cary Police Department and charged with six counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.

The incidents took place Aug. 1 and 2, according to arrest warrants.

Cary man charged in rape and beating

A Cary man was arrested Wednesday and charged with raping and beating a woman.

Mohamed Abdelwahab Elhelbawi, 63, was arrested by the Raleigh Police Department and charged in connection with an Oct. 28 incident in which police say a woman was held against her will, punched, raped and strangled.

Elhelbawi was charged with assault on a female, second-degree forcible rape, second-degree forcible sexual offense, first-degree kidnapping and strangulation, according to arrest warrants.

Police charge two with sexual abuse

Police have arrested two men in separate sex abuse offenses against teenage girls.

Brian David Lowry, 31, of 520 Ashebrooke Drive in Raleigh was arrested over the weekend and charged with raping a girl under the age of 15 from November through February. He was being held Sunday in lieu of $200,000 bail.

In a separate incident, Cary Police arrested 17-year-old Quentin Norman of 116 Collington Drive in Cary on charges that he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl in October. He was being held in the Wake County jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.
