DURHAM -- Self-Help Credit Union is offering a $2,500 reward for information aiding the investigation into last week's attack on its co-founder.
The Self-Help reward would be in addition to a reward already available from CrimeStoppers for information leading to an arrest in the assault Nov. 24 on Martin Eakes.
Eakes, 54, was beaten and robbed in a parking garage on Main Street. He was getting on the elevator in the garage when four men approached, punched him repeatedly and took his wallet, cash and two cell phones.
The robbers were described only as black and between the ages of 18 and 25.
The amount of the CrimeStoppers reward would be determined by the agency's local board, said Police Cpl. Martin C. Walkowe, CrimeStoppers coordinator. Generally, CrimeStoppers awards range from about $300 to $1,200, depending on the severity of the crime and the nature of the tip, Walkowe said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator A.C. Rogers at 919-560-4406, ext. 270, or CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200. Callers do not have to identify themselves.
