DURHAM -- Police are looking for a Durham man they have charged with murder in the Dec. 26 death of Trevor Spain.
Jameel Rasaun Thornton, 28, of Liberty Street is wanted on a murder charge as well as a larceny charge and a probation violation. Thornton is known to frequent the areas of Liberty Street, Holloway Street, East Club Boulevard and the Oxford Manor housing community, police said.
Spain, 41, was found dead shortly before midnight on Dec. 26 in the basement of the home he shared with his father at 1301 Shepherd St. Police have not said how he died.
Spain and Thornton were acquaintances, police said.
Thornton is listed as a probation absconder on the state Department of Correction's Web site. He was on probation for convictions in September of possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a revoked license and injuring real property. He previously served a prison term for burglary.
