FROM STAFF REPORTS

RALEIGH -- A Wake Forest motorcyclist died Monday after he was run over by a car in the parking lot of Ridgewood Shopping Center.

Police said the motorcyclist was traveling west slowly over a speed bump at the shopping center at 3516 Wade Avenue at 11:37 a.m. when his rear tire was struck by a 2000 BMW that was behind him.

The impact knocked the motorcyclist to the ground, where he was run over by the car. The BMW continued moving west, running over a traffic median before coming to a stop in a parking space.

The motorcyclist, William Thomas McKay, of 527 Old Bailey Court in Wake Forest, was taken to the WakeMed Raleigh Campus, where he died of his injuries. McKay would have turned 42 today.

Police said Nancy McCall Bashford, 82, of 6321 Johnsdale Road in Raleigh, was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle.
