A man who drove the getaway car in a robbery of PlayStation 3 video game consoles that led to a fatal police shooting has pleaded guilty to a felony charge.

Braden Riley, 22, of Apex entered the plea Thursday to being an accessory after the fact to common law robbery. Chief District Court Judge John J. Carroll III gave Riley a suspended sentence of four to five months and 24 months of supervised probation.

Riley was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and restitution to the victim, and perform 24 hours of community service.

Peyton Strickland, a teenager also accused in the robbery, was shot to death Dec. 1 while authorities tried to serve search and arrest warrants at the house he rented in Wilmington.

Strickland, 18, died after he was shot through the front door by New Hanover County Sheriff's Deputy Christopher Long, who said he mistook the sound of a police battering ram for gunshots. The sheriff's department fired Long after the shooting. The state continues to investigate the shooting.

Police thought Strickland, Riley and Ryan Mills, 21, robbed and assaulted a UNC-Wilmington student and took two PlayStation 3 consoles Nov. 17.

Mills, 21, pleaded guilty last month to felony common law robbery. He received a suspended sentence of 10 to 12 months and 36 months of supervised probation.
