From Staff Reports
CLAYTON - Police today found a transfer truck that was stolen last week. Still missing: its trailer with a cargo of booze.
The truck and trailer, containing hard liquor, was reported stolen from a lot behind Bojangles' Restaurant off Shotwell Road.
A private citizen noticed the truck, which had been parked for several days near a business entrance close to the intersection of Interstate 40 and N.C. 210, Clayton police Capt. Jon Gerrell said today in a news release.
A Johnston sheriff's deputy ran a check of its identification and realized that it was the stolen vehicle.
But the trailer containing the liquor was not attached and is still missing.
Gerrell said the alcohol was valued at $150,000 -- not $500,000 as police originally thought.
The 2006 Volvo tractor-trailer bore a Cowan Systems company logo.
