Stolen trailer found; booze still missing

CLAYTON - A stolen trailer that had been hauling $150,000 worth of liquor has been found -- without its cargo of booze, Clayton police said today.

Miami-Dade police on Tuesday found the trailer abandoned near the Everglades, according to a news release issued by Clayton police. The trailer was not damaged.

The trailer was part of a rig that was reported stolen May 2 from a lot near U.S. 70 Business and Shotwell Road. The tractor-trailer, owned by Cowan Systems, was on its way to deliver the liquor in Raleigh.

The driver, Donald Parks of Clayton, told police he had parked the truck in the lot behind Bojangles' off Shotwell Road on the evening of May 1 and returned the next morning to find it missing.

Several days later, the truck, or cab, was found abandoned near the intersection of Interstate 40 and N.C. 210 in Johnston County.

Police are asking anyone with information about the theft or the whereabouts of the booze to contact Detective Jason Barnes at (919) 553-1570 or by e-mail at jbarnes@townofclaytonnc.org
