DURHAM - The governor's office is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspects in the March 26 shooting death of Sean Kali Buwe, 18.

CrimeStoppers is also offering a reward leading to an arrest in the case.

According to witnesses, Buwe was walking with a friend on Liberty Street when a male dressed in dark clothing got out of a burgundy van or SUV and shot Buwe from behind. The man then fled in the vehicle, which was driven by another person, according to witnesses. Officers found Buwe's body on the sidewalk.

Buwe attended Hillside High School from August 2004 through March 2006, then transferred to West Johnston High School in Benson. In 2006, Buwe was charged with robbing a pizza deliveryman. Recently, he was charged with larceny, resisting arrest and drug possession. Buwe was awaiting trial when he was killed.

Anyone with information may call Sgt. Jack Cates at 560-4440, ext. 262, or CrimeStoppers at 683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash for information leading to arrests in felony cases. Callers never have to identify themselves.
