DURHAM -- A vice-chairwoman of the Durham County Democratic Party remained in jail this morning, accused of assisting with an assault and rape.
Joy Johnson, 30, of Albany Street, is charged with felony aiding and abetting. Her charges were associated with more serious ones against Joseph Craig, of the same address, who is charged with assault with a deadly weapon, second-degree kidnapping and second-degree rape.
According to WTVD-TV, Craig allegedly beat and raped a woman, then kidnapped and beat a man with a wooden cane and a cable cord as Johnson watched.
Craig, 25, was at the Durham County Jail Saturday on a $590,000 bond. Johnson has a $270,000 bond.
