DURHAM -- The state Highway Patrol has identified the woman injured when her vehicle was struck by a train in Orange County early Saturday afternoon after she tried to cross the tracks before the crossing gates closed.

Ida Clayton, 79, of Durham suffered rib injuries and remains at Duke Hospital, Trooper Don Metts said. The investigation into the accident continues.

Witnesses told Metts that Clayton was driving an SUV on Mount Herman Church Road near Eno River State Park. She tried to cross the railroad tracks before the gates closed, but the SUV got stuck between them. The train then struck the SUV.
