Holiday Parade set for Saturday

The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Holiday Parade is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon Saturday from the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center on Franklin Street to the Town Commons in Carrboro.

The parade, presented by The Chapel Hill News, will feature more than 80 entries, from commercial floats sponsored by local businesses to local church and community organizations. Also participating will be the Chapel Hill and Carrboro fire departments, the Chapel Hill High School Marching Band and the McDougle Middle School Marching Band and Chorus with cheerleaders. Santa Claus will be riding his sleigh, too.

Wolfpack parade to close street

A seven-block stretch of Hillsborough Street will be closed to traffic during afternoon rush hour today for N.C. State's homecoming parade.

The parade route will extend from Dan Allen Drive down Hillsborough Street to the N.C. State Bell Tower and down Pullen Road. Depending on the progress of the parade floats, Raleigh police and campus police will close that portion of Hillsborough Street about 5:45 p.m.

Cars will not be allowed on Hillsborough Street or on portions of Pullen Road and Cates Avenue during the parade. Until the parade passes, all traffic on Cates Avenue will be westbound. The university's Wolfline bus system will stop running at 5 p.m. today but will resume service after the parade.
