Wake school district gets 95 percent of consent forms back

But new preliminary figures show that most Wake students will remain this fall in schools that follow the year-round schedule.
Wake school administrators Wednesday released updated figures showing that more than 90 percent of the families of 30,500 students in year-round and modified-calendar schools have indicated they will stay there.

Parents of all year-round students have been asked in recent weeks to provide their consent to the assignments.
Administrators said they've received 95 percent of the consent forms that were required by a judge who said Wake needs parental consent to assign students to year-round schools. The district is converting 22 schools to the all-year calendar for the next academic year as a way to cope with crowding, but a group of parents challenged the plan in court.
Administrators said they will still try to contact the families of the remaining 1,000 to 1,200 students whose consent forms haven't been received yet. Those students whose consent forms aren't received will be assigned to traditional-calendar schools.
All families will be notified of new school assignments by June 20 at the latest.
