RALEIGH - Spots are still available to speak at three public hearings on Wake County's student reassignment plan.

Hearings are Tuesday at Sanderson High, Thursday at Green Hope High and Jan. 24 at Middle Creek High. All hearings are scheduled to run from 7 to 9 p.m.

To register to speak, go to www.wcpss.net/signup/assignment/hearing-signup.html or call 850-1600. Online registration ends at midnight the night before the hearing.

Those who wish to speak can still sign up at the hearing site from 6 to 7 p.m., but they'll speak after all those who registered in advance. They will be allowed to speak at only one hearing.

The reassignment plan presented to the school board this week called for moving 6,824 elementary students to different schools this fall. A final vote is scheduled for Feb. 5.
