The U.S. Census Bureau is seeking help from residents of nine North Carolina counties, including Chatham, to gear up for the 2010 census.

Next week all housing units in a nine-county area surrounding Fayetteville should receive a "dress rehearsal questionnaire" in the mail from the Census Bureau. Residents are being asked to fill out the questionnaire, which should take about 10 minutes to complete, and mail it back in a postage-paid envelope.

The goal is to fine-tune the back-and-forth data collection process between the public and the bureau, spokeswoman Stacy Gimbel said.

The area was chosen because of its mixture of urban, suburban and rural regions, according to the bureau.

In addition to Chatham, the other counties that are part of the dress rehearsal are: Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Richmond and Scotland.
