GAS PRICES

You don't have to drive all over town to find the cheapest petrol. Some Web sites help you find the lowest prices nearby.

For example, www.GasBuddy.com or www.gaspricewatch.com post prices at individual stations, using reports from volunteers. Gas Buddy has links to local information via DurhamGasPrices.com and RaleighGasPrices.com.

AAA's www.fuelcostcalculator.com has links to current prices and a calculator that estimates how much you'll pay to fuel your car for a trip you're planning.

The federal government's www.fueleconomy.gov offers gas-saving tips, fuel-economy ratings of cars and trucks and information on gas-electric hybrid cars.

CAR POOLS AND VAN POOLS

The Triangle Transit Authority operates van pools in the region. For car pool tips and van pool information, go to www.ridetta.org or call the TTA at 549-9999.

Share the Ride NC is a ride-matching service for commuters looking for car pool and van pool options. You may find others whose homes and workplaces are not far from your own. You can also find park-and-ride lots in your community.

  • E-mail: ridesharing@rideTTA.org

    YOUR BOSS

Growing numbers of Triangle employers are joining the nationwide Best Workplaces for Commuters program. A partial list can be found at www.trianglebwc.org; it will be expanded this fall with more employers that have joined the program.

Best Workplaces participants make extra efforts to help employees reduce their driving by telecommuting, biking, and using car pools, van pools or public transit.
