Workshops set on U.S. 64 upgrade

State highway officials plan workshops May 19 and 20 for people interested in learning about or commenting on proposed improvements to U.S. 64 in Chatham and Wake counties.

State and local officials are studying plans to upgrade the highway to an expressway from U.S. 1 in Cary to the U.S. 64 Bypass east of Pittsboro.

The workshops will be held from 5 to 8 p.m.:

- Monday, May 19, at Apex High School, 1501 Laura Duncan Road, Apex.

- Tuesday, May 20, at Northwood High School, 310 Northwood High School Road, Pittsboro.

Members of the public are invited to drop in and speak individually with state transportation officials and review project alternatives.
