From Staff Reports
RALEIGH - The driver of a Pontiac sports car died this morning when the vehicle spun out of control and struck a minivan on Creedmoor Road in northern Wake County.
State Highway Patrol Trooper J.W. Collins declined to identify the driver until the person's family has been notified.
The black Pontiac Fiero was heading south on Creedmoor, just north of Norwood Road, when it went out of control, crossed the center line and struck a northbound Chevrolet Astrovan, Collins said.
The minivan rolled over on its side. Its driver was not injured; its five passengers, all sheetrock workers, received injuries that were not life threatening, Collins said.
The trooper said that the Pontiac's tires did not have much tread. The unsafe tires and heavy rainfall apparently were factors in the accident, he said.
