RALEIGH -
Local governments across the state recycled a record amount last year, according to the state Department of Environment and Natural Resources.Local governments recycled nearly 1.35 million tons in the fiscal year that ended in June, up more than 6 percent from a year ago.However, the amount recycled per capita remained about the same: about 116 pounds. That figure excludes yard waste and discarded tires.Dare County led all counties with 942 pounds recycled per capita.The amount recycled per capita for local counties was: Orange, 291 pounds; Wake, 122 pounds; Durham, 121 pounds; Chatham, 91 pounds; Granville, 80 pounds; Franklin, 58 pounds; Vance, 53 pounds; Harnett, 30 pounds; and Johnston, 20 pounds.
