CLAYTON - A school bus driver was charged with reckless driving Wednesday afternoon after she apparently fell asleep behind the wheel and slammed into several mailboxes and a parked car.

State Highway Patrol Trooper C.R. Thompson said Tammy Stevens, 43, of Selma, had finished her route and was headed to the bus depot when she fell asleep on Covered Bridge Road in Clayton. He said the bus swerved to the right side of the road, where it hit mailboxes and a parked car on Covered Bridge Road, between Loop and Pritchard roads. The bus then crossed the road, coming to rest in a tobacco field.

Stevens was the only person in the bus at the time. No one was injured.
