The Clayton Police Department announced today the promotion of John Coley to captain effective July 1.

Coley, who has more than 17 years of law enforcement experience, most recently served as a lieutenant in the Investigations Division.

Coley, 41, is married and has five children. He is a 1990 graduate of Johnston Community College and teaches in the college's Basic Law Enforcement Training program.

Coley will command the Patrol Division.
