SMITHFIELD - The Johnston County school board has approved the following personnel changes, recommended by Superintendent Tony Parker:

On April 1, Nancy Nettles will become principal of the Powhatan Elementary School, and Kimery Nobles Wellons will become principal of the Princeton Elementary School. Both schools open in August. Patty Stone Whittington will replace Nettles as principal at East Clayton Elementary School. And David Pearce, an assistant principal, will step up at Four Oaks Elementary School to fill the shoes of Wellons.

In May, Cary Lane Cockrell, the district's current director of elementary education, will also take the reins as principal of the new Early College High School.
