The reward for information on the killings of four elderly people in Halifax County increased Thursday to $30,000.
On Monday morning, a family member found James Harris, 88, and his wife, Janice Harris, 72, dead in their home on Fishing Creek Road in the Glenview community. Their guests, James Whitley, 76, and his wife, Peggy Whitley, 67, were also found dead.
One of the Harrises’ granddaughters found the two couples around the kitchen table, ABC 11 reported, after Janice Harris didn’t show up to work on Monday morning.
The couples regularly would switch houses to play cards, the Wilson Times reported.
The couples were shot sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning, Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp told ABC 11.
“Since (Monday), we have taken a major turn in our investigation. But we’re still not at liberty right now to discuss that,” Tripp told ABC 11. “Right now, I’m not going to tip my hand to these low-life cowards that committed these crimes.”
Mutliple agencies are working on the investigation, including Nash, Edgecombe, Warren and Northampton county sheriff’s offices, the Enfield Police Department, the State Bureau of Investigation and the State Highway Patrol, the Wilson Times reported.
