The Crystal Coast has a freshly deposited gem and a Missouri woman is hoping by some miracle that someone finds it.
Emileigh Gallagher asked for help on social media after losing her engagement ring Wednesday while swimming in the ocean at Emerald Isle. The ring has a dark stone surrounded by smaller diamonds.
“It honestly breaks my heart to even put this on Facebook but I’m sick to my stomach and we’ve all seen crazy miracles happen every now and then with a viral post,” Gallagher wrote Thursday. “This is probably ridiculous and annoying but I’m heartbroken and don’t know what else to do.”
In less than 24 hours, the post had been shared more than 5,000 times all over North Carolina and from Alabama to Missouri to New Jersey.
Many offered words of comfort, some coming from people who had experienced similar misfortune before.
Gallagher said she was hopeful because she wasn’t too far from shore when the ring was lost. Some people responded with recommendations for local metal detectors for hire.
She said she had yet to find out if insurance would cover the loss.
“I’m hoping an honest person finds it and sees this,” Gallagher wrote.
