A Franklin County high school student was shot and killed on Monday, according to the school system.
Franklin County Schools did not identify the student, only saying that he or she attended Franklinton High School.
“The loss of a young life is indescribable. The district wishes to express its condolences to the family as they try to come to terms with today’s incident,” the school system said in a news release Monday evening. “Franklin County Schools will do everything possible to support them and the school community during this tragedy.”
As part of that support, the school system plans to have additional counselors on hand for Franklinton High School students on Tuesday.
The student was one of two people shot and killed on Monday, according to multiple reports. The other shooting victim was an adult. The student involved had allegedly been suspended for bringing a gun to school.
No additional information was immediately available.
