This new Life Time Fitness policy might change the way you work out
Life Time Fitness members will notice something different about their local gym as they set out to accomplish new fitness goals for the year.
Instead of watching Fox News or CNN while on the elliptical, Life Time Fitness members probably will see A&E or Discovery Channel on the gym’s TVs, the Pioneer Press reported.
Life Time Fitness, a Minnesota-based chain, announced last week via Twitter that it will no longer show national cable news networks on any of its big-screen TVs.
“It always is our goal to meet the majority of members’ expressed requests, and we believe this change is consistent with the desires of overall membership as well as our healthy way of life philosophy,” the company tweeted on Thursday.
The company also said the change is a commitment to provide a family-oriented environment, free of negative or politically-charged content.
The Triangle has six Life Time Fitness locations.
The change drew a mixed reaction from Twitter users.
I don't have TV at home and train at Life Time Fitness the Tv's are always blasting news in the morning it's so effing annoying. I watch the same people every day watch those tv's instead of training!

I like it. Noticed it right away. Too much negativity to look at while working out. My treadmill work out is less stressful now. Thanks!

I will be dropping my membership immediately and letting everyone I know who is a member there to do the same.

@lifetimefitness offensive? What a bunch of BS! Many professionals like me start out the day doing cardio/watching cable news. Don't need LTF deciding what I can/cannot watch. Never seen any complaints in 10+ years. Staying informed is actually HEALTHY! LA Fitness here I come.

This is awesome! Gym time is time to get into a healthy state physically and mentally. While we should all stay informed, a constant barrage of negativity isn't healthy. Great decision!

The big-screen TVs in the gyms will show USA, A&E, Discovery Channel, HGTV, ESPN and local stations, the Pioneer Press reported.
But Life Time will not totally scrub cable TV news from its gyms. By February, all TV screens built into the cardio machines will have the ability to show cable news channels, the Star Tribune reported.
