A driver was killed in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Ray and Laurel Mountain roads Friday evening.
Raleigh Police said that Donald Ray Akin, 68, driving a 2014 Jeep SUV traveling south on Laurel Mountain Road was struck by a truck pulling a flatbed trailer as he attempted to cross the intersection at Ray Road.
Tony Lamont McDonald, 35, was driving a 2001 Mack truck pulling a trailer carrying construction equipment and traveling west on Ray Road. Akin pulled stopped at the roads' intersection and then pulled into the path of McDonald. Both vehicles left the roadway after the collision occurred.
Akin was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. McDonald was not injured.

Traffic was diverted for approximately six hours while the collision was investigated and wreckage was cleared from the scene.
No charges have been filed in the crash, and police say none are currently expected.
