The News & Observer has received complaints from readers over the past few days about an unpleasant odor coming from the newspaper.
Publisher Orage Quarles III said Monday that the press room staff thinks the smell was coming from the ink. “We believe that it has been caused by a pH imbalance in the ink tanks of one of our presses,” Quarles said.
The tanks have been flushed and refilled with new ink, Quarles added. “It is believed that will eliminate the odor,” he said. The N&O will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that the problem is solved.
