Variety show in Selma

Music for lunch
Students of Dara Edwards will preform when Music for the Lunch Bunch continues at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at First Presbyterian Church, 215 S. Third St., Smithfield. Edwards holds a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from UNC-Greensboro. She has been teaching at her studio in Clayton for 35 years.

Alyssa Jennens-Cheong is the 12-year-old daughter of Richard and Li-Ann Jennens-Cheong of Clayton. She is a ninth-grader at Corinth-Holders High School.
Lane Baggett is the 14-year-old daughter of Jimmy and Jill Baggett of Smithfield. She is a 10th-grader at Smithfield-Selma High School.
Benjamin Johnson is the 16-year-old son of Mark and Cathy Johnson of Cary. He is home-schooled.
Drawing for adults
The Clayton Parks and Recreation Department will offer a drawing class for adults. A morning session will begin Sept. 15 and will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays. An evening session, also starting Sept. 15, will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays. The cost is $40 for Clayton residents and $55 for nonresidents. For more information, call 919-553-1550.
Outdoor painting in Clayton
The Clayton Parks and Recreation Department will offer art journaling, a two-day workshop, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 4 and Aug. 11. Enjoy the summer weather while painting outside. The cost is $20 for Clayton residents and $35 for nonresidents. For more information, call 919-553-1550.
Kids can learn to weave
“Weaving the Summer Away,” a camp for children ages 9-12, will meet from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 10-15 at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center, 600 E. Booker Dairy Road, Smithfield. Campers will learn the basics of weaving on a handmade loom. They will also create an open-weave basket using reed and recycled materials. The cost is $100. To learn more, call 919-934-1408.
Art Faire seeks entries
The 17th annual Art Faire in Clayton is seeking entries. The competition will award six prizes in two categories – fine arts and photography. The deadline to enter is Aug. 24, Entries will go on display at The Clayton Center in September. The entry fee is $25 for members of Clayton Visual Arts and $40 for all others.
