A “Service of Hope and Remembrance” is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Wilson’s Mills Christian Church, 179 Fire Department Road. This reflective worship service is a chance to slow down and to remember the hope of the season, the church said in a news release. Elements of the service will include scripture, reflections, singing, the sharing of Communion and the opportunity to say aloud names of loved ones who have died. A “Journey to Bethlehem” is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. Dec. 12-13 in Wesley Hall at Centenary United Methodist Church, 140 E. Market St., Smithfield. The church will re-create Bethelem as it was during the birth of Christ. Visitors will meet the shepherd, then the centurion, who will lead them to the census taker. They will go to the Roman tax collector and Herod before entering the Town of Bethlehem, where a woodcarver, potter, fisherman and basket weaver will be at work. Buy some unleavened bread, hot drinks or fruit from vendors in the marketplace. Step into the synagogue and speak to the rabbi. Visit with Mary, Joseph and the Baby Jesus as angels sing “Away in the Manger.” Admission is free; however you might want to buy bread from a vendor or give to the Bethlehem town beggars. Proceeds will go to the Smithfield Rescue Mission.

Second St., Clayton: Moravian Love Feast, 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, in the fellowship hall; choir’s Christmas cantata, 8:30 and 11 a.m. in the sanctuary; and Christmas Eve services, 4 p.m. in the fellowship hall for children, 6 p.m. traditional service in the sanctuary and 8 p.m. traditional service with Communion, also in the sanctuary. At the “Hanging of the Greens” service, attendees will have the chance to make and Advent wreath, and the church will serve refreshments.
