Plates of chicken and pastry will be on sale from 11 a..m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at Providence Presbyterian Church, 14664 N.C. 210 just west of McGee’s Crossroads. The cost is $8 and includes pastry, green beans, sweet potatoes and desert. Takeout will be available. Throughout the day, the church will also hold a silent auction.
The Oak Grove Boys will sing at 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, at Faith Baptist Church, 204 Ricks Road, Selma. Admission is free; the church will collect an offering for the group.

Hope Church in Clayton is collecting nonperishable food items for its food closet and for the BackPack Buddies program. The church is seeking the following items on the schedule listed: week of Jan. 10, peanut butter and Jelly; week of Jan. 17, chunky soups; week of Jan. 24, canned and, or uncooked pastas, including spaghetti, noodles and rice; and week of Jan. 31, canned meats. Collection boxes are located in the back of the Hope Church building, located at 1696 Amelia Church Road. Donations are moved daily to a secure location.
