New arts, music festival seeking vendors
Clayton Visual Arts is seeking vendors for Mondo Roots, a new cultural arts and music festival. The vendor application is online at claytonvisualartsnc.org/calendar/2016-mondo-roots. The deadline to apply is March 31. The festival will offer music, food trucks, beer and wine, handmade arts and crafts, art vendors and live art performances. It’s scheduled from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 4.

Sundown in Downtown
Here’s the lineup for this year’s Sundown in Downtown concert series in Benson: April 14, Band of Oz; May 12, The Embers featuring Craig Woolard; June 9, The Attractions Band; Aug. 11, Jim Quick and the Coastline Band; and Sept. 22, Justin West Band and The Jonathan Parker Band. Concerts are at 5:30 p.m. in the Singing Grove, 406 E. Main St. Note: The Sept. 22 concert will start at 6 p.m. In case of rain, concerts move to the American Legion Building, 605 N. Wall St., Benson. Admission is free.
Acting class in Clayton
Acting 101, a class for middle and high school students, will begin March 22 at The Clayton Center, 111 E. Second St., Clayton. The class will meet Tuesdays through May 3. Floral paintings by Jane Kate Brown are on display this month at the Public Library of Johnston County and Smithfield, 305 E. Market St., Smithfield.
Student art at JCC
Artwork by Johnston County high school students will be on display April 4-May 14 in the Frank Creech Art Gallery at Johnston Community College, 245 College Road, Smithfield. A reception for the artists is scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Doodlebugs, an art class for children, meets weekly at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center, 600 E. Booker Dairy Road, Smithfield. Sign up for a single class or a four-week session.
