The Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department will offer two art camps this summer.
“Young Rembrandts,” a drawing camp, will meet July 25-29 at the Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center, 600 Booker Dairy Road, Smithfield. Young people will learn to draw snakes, jaguars, toucans and more. Hours are 9-10 a.m. daily for ages 5-7 and 10-11 a.m. for ages 8-13. The cost is $75. A second drawing camp, with a Southwestern U.S. theme, will meet Aug. 8-12, also at the SRAC. Young people will learn to draw a cactus, flowers, basketry, a pueblo and more. Pottery class in Clayton
A pottery class for adults will begin May 20 at the Clayton Community Center, 715 Amelia Church Road, Clayton. The class will meet from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fridays through July 1. Art Faire seeks entries
Clayton Visual Arts is seeking entries for this year’s Art Faire. The annual competition accepts works in two categories: fine arts and photography. The winner in each category receives $750. The entry fee is $25 for Clayton Visual Arts members and $40 for nonmembers, and the deadline to enter is 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26. More information is available at claytonvisualartsnc.org.
Sundown in Downtown
Here’s the remaining lineup for this year’s Sundown in Downtown concert series in Benson: June 9, The Attractions Band; Aug. 11, Jim Quick and the Coastline Band; and Sept. 22, Justin West Band and The Jonathan Parker Band. Concerts are at 5:30 p.m. in the Singing Grove, 406 E. Main St. Note: The Sept. 22 concert will start at 6 p.m. In case of rain, concerts move to the American Legion Building, 605 N.
